JOB DESCRIPTION
If you have ambition, talent and drive, consider a fast-moving career with Canada Post. We are currently seeking an on-call Post Office Assistant who will use a customer-focused approach when providing counter services to customers.
Note: The ideal candidate should reside in the community. Applicants outside the community in which the Post Office is located may be considered as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school or provincial equivalency and/or experience in business administration
• Training and/or experience interacting with the public in a retail and/or service environment, including sales and cash transactions
• Understanding of general or post office accounting systems.
• Physically fit to lift mail containers of up to 50 lb, push or pull boxes, sort mail and stand for extended periods of time
• Flexibility to be available for temporary, on-call work
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Customer Service:
Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with inquiries, package tracking, and postal services at the counter.
Address customer concerns and provide solutions promptly and courteously, ensuring a positive customer experience.
2. Mail Processing:
Sort incoming and outgoing mail accurately and efficiently according to established procedures and postal regulations.
Operate mail processing equipment such as sorting machines and barcode scanners to expedite mail handling and distribution.
3. Package Handling:
Receive, process, and dispatch parcels and packages, ensuring proper labeling, packaging, and documentation.
Safely handle and transport packages of various sizes and weights, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
4. Sales and Transactions:
Conduct sales transactions for postage stamps, shipping supplies, and other postal products and services.
Process payments accurately, including cash, credit/debit cards, and electronic payments, and provide receipts to customers.
5. Inventory Management:
Monitor and maintain inventory levels of postage stamps, shipping supplies, and other retail products, replenishing stock as needed.
Perform regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies to ensure accurate record-keeping.
6. Record-Keeping and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of mail transactions, sales transactions, and customer inquiries using postal software systems.
Prepare and complete necessary paperwork, including shipping labels, customs forms, and delivery receipts, ensuring compliance with postal regulations.
7. Assist with Mail Delivery:
Assist mail carriers with sorting and loading mail and parcels for delivery routes as needed.
Coordinate with mail carriers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of mail and packages to customers’ addresses.
8. Adherence to Safety and Security Protocols:
Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and incidents in the workplace.
Adhere to security measures to safeguard mail, parcels, and postal assets against loss, theft, or damage.
9. Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks, share information, and support each other in providing efficient postal services.
10. Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in mail handling, customer service, and retail operations.
Provide feedback and suggestions for enhancing service quality and customer satisfaction.
